Conferences would like to thank all speakers, sponsors and delegates for
contributing to the great success of the 2nd Annual International
Ukrainian Banking Forum that took place 6-8 November 2007
at the Premier Palace Hotel in Kyiv. The forum brought
together more than 400 senior representatives from Ukrainian and
International banks to exchange experiences, gather new information,
participate in panel discussions and take advantage of the unique formats for
networking.. 60+ speakers participated
in the forum including top executives from such banks and financial
institutions as: National Bank of

others Flashback to the 2nd Ukrainian Banking Forum: 6th of
November: The first day of the
conference was opened by the keynote speech of Petro Poroshenko, Chairman
of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine, followed by the overview of
the Ukrainian Banking sector, its trends and perspectives. ‘Development of
successful growth strategies’ was one among the hottest topics of the day and
leading Ukrainian bankers such as Borys Tymonkin, Chairman of the Board, Ukrsotsbank, Volodymyr Lavrenchuk, Chairman of the Board, Raiffeisen Bank
Aval, Mykola Lagun, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Delta Bank, Denys Gorbunenko, Chairman of the
Board, Rodovid Bank shared their views on the potential for expansion. Lado Gurgenidze, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Bank of Georgia shared his
experience on preparing to raise an IPO and the restructuring process the bank
underwent. The last session of the day was dedicated to ongoing mergers and
acquisitions in the industry and featured analysis of prospects for such
deals in the future. Following the chairman’s
closing comments for Day 1, the social programme began in earnest with the
Adam Smith Conferences’ Industry Award Ceremony which saw when the most
prominent bankers receive honours for their contribution to the industry. Our
thanks goes to Ruslana Pisanka,
the well-known Ukrainian celebrity who kindly announced the results of the

by key players such as Sergiy Mishta, Chairman of
the Board, Brokbusinessbank, Denys Gorbunenko, Chairman of the Board, Rodovid Bank, Robert
Kossman, Deputy Chairman, Raiffeisen
Bank Aval who all gave their opinion
on the key factors that must be taken into account when formulating future
policies. The session dedicated to debt finance created such a buzz that the
subsequent Q&A session continued for forty minutes! Dmitri Shemetilo, Director, Argo Capital Management described the nature of the sub-prime
mortgage crisis in USA and the far-reaching global repercussion. Securitisation
was the main focus for an hour after lunch, during which time the international
participants shared their experiences with the audience and their Ukrainian
peers gave their view on the Privatbank deal and predictions for the future. Cris van Kempen, Ekaterina
Trofimova, Natalia Shchelovanova, Marcin Figlus and Maciej Meder discussed the
issues linked to establising risk management strategies, Basel II standards
and the components that are necessary to create effective risk models. The
day was concluded with a contribution from Daniel Bolschun, (Trade Facilitation Programme, EBRD)
on trade and project finance. The last day of the forum was dedicated to the blossoming
retail banking sector. Dmytro Zinkov, Alexandre Grishko, Anton Romanchuk and Dmitri
Angarov discussed the latest developments and perspectives of this
rapidly developing segment.. The destiny of BancAssurance in
Ukraine attracted commentary from a cosmopolitan array of commentators, among
them, Fortis
Insurance International, Renaissance Life, Bank Renaissance Capital and Cardif Ukraine (BNP
Paribas Group). The general consensus of these
observers is that there is a great future for BancAssurance. The session dedicated
to consumer credit market resulted stimulated much discussion with the
majority of questions directed towards Irina Mykolaenko,
Chairman of the Board, International Bureau of Credit Histories. The last session was devoted
to the topic of mortgage lending has generated so much debate that Sergei Volkov, Greg Krasnov, Dermot Hannigan, David Kner and Igor Yushko
spent the remainder of the afternoon fielding questions from the floor. Ukrainian
Banking Forum has already established itself as the elite gathering of all
