Sakhalin-1 Project

Sakhalin-1 is one of the largest single foreign direct investments in Russia and an excellent example of the most advanced technological solutions in the industry. The multinational Sakhalin-1 Consortium (ExxonMobil interest 30%) also includes affiliates of Rosneft, the Russian state-owned oil company, RN-Astra (8.5%) and Sakhalinmorneftegas-Shelf (11.5%); the Japanese consortium SODECO (30%); and the Indian state-owned oil company ONGC Videsh Ltd. (20%).

The Project includes three offshore fields: Chayvo, Odoptu, and Arkutun Dagi with potential recoverable resources 2.3 billion barrels of oil and 17.1 trillion cubic feet of gas. Gas sales and oil production from Chayvo field started in 2005 and exceeded 257 million barrels of oil and 200 billion cubic feet of natural gas delivered to Russian Far East customers.

Sakhalin Energy

Sakhalin Energy is operator of Sakhalin-2 Project formed in 1994 to develop Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye gas field offshore northeast Sakhalin. The company shareholders are Gazprom (50%, plus one share); Shell (27,5% minus one share); Mitsui (12,5%), and Mitsubishi (10%).

Sakhalin-2 is one of the largest integrated oil and gas projects in the world.  It is the first offshore oil and gas development and the first LNG project in Russia, under the first Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) approved in Russian.

The first LNG plant in Russia was inaugurated in February 2009 by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.  The plant consists of two processing trains, each with a capacity of 4.8 million tonnes/year of LNG. At full design capacity (9.6 million tonnes/year) the highly automated production facility is operated by only 300 staff.

LNG is opening up new energy resources markets in Asia and America, strengthening bilateral commercial and economic relations between Russia and Asia-Pacific countries and helping these countries diversify their sources of gas supply, thereby reducing their dependence on supplies from other countries.

Kentech Sakhalin Technical Services (KSTS) was established in Sakhalin in 2003, to provide Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning and Maintenance Services.
