Yury Korol
Yury Korol Vice-president, Production Controlling & Investments Russian Copper Company

Since 2007 Yury Korol has worked at the Russian Copper Company (RMK), where as Head of Capital Development and Chairman of the Board of Directors he is responsible for capital development, investments, and the technical, organisational and financial audit of RMK’s enterprises.
Mr Korol was born in 1961. In 1983 he completed a degree in metallurgy at the Urals Polytechnic Institute, graduating with honours. In 1987 he graduated from Orenburg Polytechnic Institute, specialising in patenting.
Yury Korol began his career in 1983 at the Yuzhuralnikel plant in the town of Orsk. In 1989 he was transferred to the Mednogorsk Copper Plant, where he worked as chief engineer. Between October 1989 and 2000 he was re-elected as the plant’s General Director five times. Mr Korol later worked as deputy chief engineer for investments and reconstruction at Kolsk Mining and Metallurgy Company (a Norilsk Nickel enterprise), as General Director of the trust “Pechengastroy”, as chief metallurgist at the Urals Mining and Metallurgy Company, and as an Advisor on precious metals at Renova Group of Companies, where he was responsible for the technical, organisational and financial audit of enterprises in Russia as well as abroad.
Yury Korol is an experienced manager and a highly-qualified metallurgy engineer.

Born in Cherepovets, Russia in 1980.  Graduated from the Cherepovets State University with an engineering degree “Steel rolling and processing”.  She was awarded  the Master of Engineering and Technology  degree.
She has been working at ОАО Severstal since 2003. Presently, she is the manager of Marketing Department. The scope of her professional expertise comprises the following: monitoring of target steel consumption markets; company’s sales planning (evaluation of the potential growth in steel consumption by the company’s clients both in the short and medium-term prospects, creation   of long-term sales plan specified by sales segments); development of strategic alternatives for company’s growth.


Kylyshbek Izbashanov

Mr. Izbaskhanov was born on October, 26 1952 in a large family in the Kyzyl-ui village of Tolebi district of South Kazakhstan Oblast, Kazakhstan.

After school graduation in Langer town, during 1970-1975 he was studying in the Kazakhstan Polytechnic University named after V.I. Lenin as metallurgical engineer.  After graduation from university he worked as a burner in the Ust-Kamenogorsk lead-zinc plant.
In 1976 he began work in the Shymkent lead plant and where he was promoted from smelter to head of smelter workshop.
In July 1985 by order of Ministry of Nonferrous Metal Industry of the USSR he was appointed to Head of Shymkent Lead Plant position.
After Kazakhstan had got its independency Mr.Izbaskhanov in 1993-1996 was appointed to the position of Chairman of State Committee on Government Property of Republic of Kazakhstan. 
In 1993-1996 he was a Head of the first government holding “AKSUNKAR”, which brought together a number of mining and metallurgical complexes in Kazakhstan.
In 1996-2002 he held senior positions of Deputy Mayor of South Kazakhstan region, Mayor of Shymkent.

In 2002-2006 he worked as the Executive Director of JSC "National Company" Kazakhstan Temir Zholy".
In the period within 2006 to 2008 Mr. Izbaskhanov worked as First Vice-President of JSC “National Company “Kazakhstan Engineering”, which brought together machine builders, which were part of military-industry complex of USSR earlier.
Since January 2009 he was appointed Director of the Directorate for management of industrial assets of JSC "National Welfare Fund" Samruk-Kazyna".
Since May, 2009 he has been working as the Managing Director, Member of the Board of JSC "National Mining Company" Tau-Ken Samruk ".
Mr. Izbaskhanov K.S. has a number of development and research papers devoted to improvement of the technology and equipment in non-ferrous metallurgy.
For the merits in the civil service, for the contribution to the development of Kazakhstan industry he was awarded orders "Kurmet", "Parasat", five medals of the Republic of Kazakhstan of different values, he has titles "Honorary metallurgist" and "Honorary machine- maker"


Yury Makarov

Mr Makarov is also the Chairman of IRC’s operations committee. He began his career as an engineer at the company NT Сomputers. In 2002 he joined Aricom as operations director, before moving to Petropavlovsk to become Head of Production. In 2010 Mr Makarov was named General Director of IRC.
Mr Makarov was previously commercial director at NT Сomputers in Moscow, where he managed the company’s sales and service divisions. He is a certified specialist in development of airborne electrical equipment, and holds an engineering degree from the Russian K.I. Tsiolkovsky State Technical University.

Graduated from Kazakhstan Polytechnic University named after V.I.Lenin, Machine Building Department, as a mechanical engineer. Doctor of Science, Academician of International Informatization Academy, Professor emeritus of Kazakhstan National Technical University named after K.I.Satpaev.  Mr.Tleuzhanov has number of developments devoted to machine building.  He was awarded orders “Star of Commonwealth” (Russian Federation) and Anniversary Medal “10 year of Astana”.

He began his working experience as a shop foreman of the press shop in the Almaty Heavy Engineering factory. In the period within 1985-2004 he worked as a senior shop foreman, head of section, head of workshop, CEO of Mining equipment plant (JSC “Massaget”). In 2004-2006 he was a Head of JSC “Machine Tool Plant”. In the period within 2006-2009 Mr.Tleuzhanov was president of JSC “Almaty Car-repair Plant”. In 2009-2011 – President of JCS “Lokomotiv Assembly Plant”. Since 2012 he has been working as a Head of “Tau-Ken Altyn”,Ltd.

Evgeny Redin

Born on 15 June 1969 in Magnitogorsk into a family that witnessed the ground breaking for the construction of the city.
Mr.Redin has army service and two higher educations to his credit. His educational background includes the following:
1993 – a degree from the Magnitogorsk Mining and Metallurgy Institute in metals working;
1997 – additional training in the National Economy Academy under the President of the Russian Federation with specialization in finance and credit;
2003 – a second degree from the Russian Government's Moscow Financial Academy in management;
2006 – attended courses in the Stockholm Scholl of Economics.
After graduation from the Magnitogorsk Mining and Metallurgy Institute Mr.Redin took a job as an engineer at the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), where he ascended through the following career stages:
1997 – head of the contracts appraisal department;
From 2000 onwards:
- head of the inspection and audit department;
- head of the internal audit service under the Chairman of the MMK Board of Directors;
- head of the equipment purchasing department.
From 2006 until 2010 Mr.Redin held the position of a deputy of the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region where he was responsible for regional social programs.
In 2010 Mr. Redin returned to MMK and was put in charge of business development of the MMK Group.


Alexei Mojarov

Alexei has graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in 1977 with diploma cum laude, specializing on international economy of commodities.
 
He has been working from 1977 to 1983 in V/O "Sojuzpromexport", the USSR state monopoly for foreign trade in minerals and ferrous metals, dealing with foreign trade of iron, manganese and chrome ores.  In 1983-1986 he was representing V/O "Sojuzpromexport" and V/O "Raznoimport" in Italy.

Upon his return to Moscow he worked for the Department of International Economic Organizations of the USSR/Russia Ministry for Foreign Trade/Foreign Economic Relations.

In 1990 he joined the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) working in its Commodities Division (currently Special Unit on Commodities) and dealing with minerals and metals. Alexei is also the Project Manager of the UNCTAD Trust Fund on Iron Ore Information.

His mother tongue is Russian, he also speaks English, French, Italian and Polish.

Robert M. Friedland

Well-known international financier Robert Friedland is in the vanguard of leaders in the global mining and energy sectors who have pioneered business links throughout Asia and the Asia Pacific region during the past 20 years.

Mr. Friedland is Chairman of Ivanhoe Capital Corporation, his family’s private venture capital and project finance company, with operations based in Singapore, Beijing and London.
He also is founder, Executive Chairman and controlling shareholder of Ivanplats Limited, which has an initial focus on advancing and developing three major mining projects in Africa. Ivanplats shares began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange in October 2012 following a successful initial public offering that raised CDN$300 million (US$307 million) from international investors.

Mr. Friedland founded Ivanhoe Mines in 1994 and served variously as Executive Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer during the ensuing 18 years. Under Mr. Friedland’s leadership, a decade of initial discoveries by Ivanhoe Mines revealed a 12.4-kilometre-long (7.7-mile) chain of deposits in southern Mongolia that will support a long-life mine and establish the Oyu Tolgoi Project as one of the world’s top three copper-gold-silver producers. International miner Rio Tinto increased its ownership stake in Ivanhoe Mines to 51% in 2012.

Mr. Friedland is co-founder and Executive Co-Chairman of Ivanhoe Energy, an established oil producer in China that also is developing heavy-oil projects in Canada and Ecuador using its advanced, proprietary, heavy-oil upgrading technology.

Mr. Friedland holds U.S. and Canadian citizenships and resides in Singapore. He graduated from Reed College, in Oregon, USA, in 1974 with an undergraduate degree in political science.

Sergey Kashuba was elected as the Chairman of the Russian Union of Gold Producers in April 2012. 
During previous ten years Sergey Kashuba  worked in different mining companies: deputy Chairman for corporate development of the Zapadnaya Prospectors Artel (Sakha (Yakutia) Republic); deputy CEO of GeoProMining; investment adviser in Tugansky GOK “Ilmenit” (Tomsk Region) and in Geo-Systema (Moscow); deputy CEO for economy of gold mining company “Zolotaya Zvezda” (Khakassia Republic).  He has experience in geological and economic evaluation of about 60 gold deposits in Russia and CIS countries and experience in structuring sales transactions of gold deposits.
From 1999 to 2002 he was the Chairman of the Committee on precious metals of the Russian Banking Association. He took an active part in developing legislative initiatives for liberalisation of Russian precious metals market.

In 1995-1998 he completed courses on “Banking operations with gold, precious metals and precious stones” in the Management Training Center (Switzerland) and in the Institute of Business and Management (Switzerland); professional courses on “Banking operations with precious metals” in the Banking Academy and in the Higher School of Economics (Moscow) and a course on “Custom Clearance of export operations with refined gold and silver” in the Academy of Management and Market (Moscow).
From 1996 to 2002 he was a head of Precious metals Department of Incombank and Investment Banking Corporation.  Has considerable experience in lending to Russian gold mining companies.
From 1992 and till 1995 worked in “Poisk” Bank (Minsk) where he started as a head of international transactions department and worked his way up to Director of the foreign economic activity department.  At the same time he advanced his professional qualifications in Swiss Bank Corporation (Switzerland), Commerzbank (Germany) and in the MIRBIS Banking School (Moscow).

From 1977 till 1994 he worked for Kysylkum geological prospecting expedition (Muruntau).  Main areas of activities are geological survey, mineral exploration and prognosis evaluation of gold, silver, copper and other deposits.

In 1995-2006 he worked for Zarafshan-Newmont JV. In 2006 Mr. Makarov worked for NBLgold consulting company (Moscow, Russia). From 2007 till now he has been working for Arlan Investment Company. Mining sector of Arlan IC is dealing with gold deposits (Magadan region, Russia) and uranium (the Republic of Namibia).

Alexander Gareev graduated from London Business School in 2008, currently holds the position of  Head of Metals and Mining at OJSC “Gazprombank”.

The Gazprombank’ Metals and Mining team has accumulated the vast expertise that allows organizing structured deals for companies raising finance for projects in ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, coal and precious metals mining.

Ersun Ozdemirel is the export manager at Borcelik, which is a joint venture of Borusan Holding of Turkey and ArcelorMittal.
 
After he acquired his degree in Business Administration in 1997 from Middle East Technical University (METU), he started to work in finance sector for 3 years in corporate marketing division.

Afterwards, he completed his masters degree at Duquesne University in Pittsburg, USA.

Then, he joined Borcelik, which is a re-roller specialized in cold rolled and coated flat steel and giving service to automotive, consumer (white) goods, radiator and construction sectors. At first, he worked in purchasing division and was responsible for Hot Rolled Coils (HRC) and Zinc (Zn) purchasing and supply agreements.

Afterwards, he became member of sales group and now acting as export manager. Under his leadership, Borcelik is one of the biggest exporters of Cold Rolled (CR) and Hot-dip Galvanized (HDG) flat steel, mainly to European Union, Middle East and CIS countries.


Barry Ehrlich

Ehrlich joined Alfa Bank in 2008 from hedge fund Och-Ziff where he managed emerging market long-short equities, and prior to that, asset manager Valartis, where he co-managed a top-performing Russian equities fund. At Alfa, he is responsible for metals and mining commodity forecasting and equity recommendations for the clients of the bank.

He is a member of the Strategic Financing Unit of Alfa Bank, a cross-divisional group which advises companies on investment and development strategy.

Ehrlich combines fundamental and technical analytical techniques, including statistical and algorithmic methodologies, in his forecasting work. Ehrlich started his career at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York as a credit markets analyst.

Prior to joining Centerra in August 2011 as Vice President Exploration, Dave worked 27 years for Newmont Mining Corporation in exploration and business-development roles in North America, Australia, Central Asia, Europe and West Africa.   While at Newmont, he participated in the discovery and delineation of the Leeville and Turf gold deposits on the Carlin Trend in Nevada, directed greenfield discoveries of Carlin-type and high-sulfidation gold deposits in the Tethys mineral belt in Turkey and Armenia and oversaw a major resource expansion at the Akyem gold deposit in West Africa. 

Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geology from the University of Maine at Orono (1975) and a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth (1984).  He is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists and a Certified Professional Geologist with the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Gennadiy Skopov Deputy Technical Director Urals Mining & Metallurgical Company

Until 1999 Gennady Skopov performed academic research work in commercial structures.
In 1986 he was presented with an award by the Council of Ministers of the USSR, in recognition of his development and implementation of a series of technological processes for the extraction of copper and precious metals from  semi-finished metallurgical products.
 In 1992 Mr Skopov became a Doctor of Technical Sciences. He is the author of more than 100 academic works and patents.
Since 1999 Mr Skopov has worked at the Urals Mining and Metallurgy Company as Strategic Planning Director and Deputy Technical Director for metallurgy.
Mr Skopov is a Professor at the Urals B.N. Yeltsin Federal University, a full member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of the Russian Federation, and an honoured metallurgist of the Russian Federation.


Sergey Kiselev

Sergey joined McKinsey in 2007. He generally focuses on projects related to development and implementation of company strategies, optimization of organizational structures and management systems, and execution of business performance improvement programs, mainly in the electric power industry. In addition, he has extensive work experience in the oil and gas sector and the mining industry.

Among the projects that Sergey has been actively engaged in – development of an energy sector growth strategy for one of the Eastern European countries, including power generation, transmission and distribution, as well as preparation of recommendations on updating the country’s power industry regulations; launch and roll-out of an operating performance improvement program for a large engineering company specializing in construction of high-voltage grids and substations, including optimization of its project portfolio; design of an alternative energy development strategy for a large industrial holding company involving optimization of operating and capital expenditures; implementation of an operational transformation system for a major generation company including implementing initiatives to improve operating performance of its plants.

In July 2010, Sergey joined McKinsey’s Global Sustainability and Resource Productivity Practice. In this capacity, he is involved in projects related to development of energy efficiency improvement strategies within the framework of government programs, as well as in similar projects for major Russian industrial companies.

Leonid Nikolayevich  Shevelev, doctor of economic sciences, professor,  Worked as the economical laboratory head at “SEVERSTAL” Steel Works, later - as the deputy director of the Institute of Economics at the Central Scientific Research  Institute for  Iron and Steel Industry (I.P. Bardin’s TSNIchermet), the Deputy Minister of Ferrous and Nonferrous metallurgy of Russia, vice-president of the Russian Union of Metal Exporters (RUME).

In 1993-1997 worked as the Head of the Work Group for Steel in European Economical Commission of UNO , was a co-chairman of the Contact EC-Russia Group for coal and steel, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TASIS programs for ferrous metallurgy of Russia financed by EC. Today I work as a Chief Scientific Officer in Economics at the Central Scientific Research Institute for Iron and Steel Industry on the problems concerning the Kioto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Sphere of my scientific activity: restructuring of inefficient production facilities, modernization, energy efficiency of Iron and Steel Industry.

Andrey Boyko

Sergey Belsky

Sergey Belsky was appointed Director for Russia and CIS sales in June 2010. His accountabilities include increasing the share of the company’s domestic sales through developing customer relations and exploring new areas of aluminium application. He also oversees RUSAL programme to drive the local production and consumption of aluminum-based products.
Between 2008 and 2010 Mr Belsky was head of RUSAL’s Sales and Marketing Directorate. Before taking up this position he was the Sales Director of RUSAL’s Moscow office. From 2000 through 2007 he worked as head of Russia and CIS sales department.
From 1999 to 2000 Sergey Belsky was Head of Export Sales in Siberian Aluminium. From 1996 to 1999 he worked in Trans World Group. Mr Belsky started his career in 1991 as a trader in Raznoimport before working his way up to Head the division in 1996.
Sergey Belsky graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, majoring in Metal Engineering. He later graduated from the Moscow Institute of International Business of the Ministry of Economic Relations and Trade. He also holds a degree from the London Business School.


Ciaran Roe

Ciaran is responsible for the following Platts price assessments: Black Sea billet and Turkish rebar exports, together with EMEA scrap markets. Previously, he was responsible for pioneering the first ever daily scrap index for Turkish imports.

As a European Markets Editor, Ciaran is in daily contact with suppliers, buyers and intermediaries in the above markets. A keen linguist, Ciaran has an MA in Italian & English Literature and is learning Spanish. Previous media appearances include stints this year on the BBC, as well as in Platts’ own podcasts, webinars and forums.

After receiving his master's degree in Management of Business Administration in 2002 from La Salle University - Philadelphia,he worked as a Business Analyst for a multinational pipe and glass manufacturer; Saint Gobain – Philadelphia. In 2003,  he started to work in the stock market at SEI Investments ( Fortune 500 company in US ) as a Mutual Fund
By 2005 right after he returned back to Turkey, Mr Bolaca has started to work for Tezcan Galvanized steel mill and he was responsible for the whole sales towards Europe, CIS and Northern America regions.
In 2007, He joined to Promeks Steel trading. Mr. Bolaca has established coated steel department in the company and  afterwards he managed  flat steel division at Promeks Steel Inc.
In 2010, Mr. Bolaca has joined to LN Metals International to manage the steel division. LN Metals is an international trading company with an annual turnover of 850 million USD. Company supplies both ferrous and non ferrous metals through offices in England, China and in Brazil and also holds steel stocks mainly in EU and in South America.
Besides participating to international steel conferences as a speaker, Mr Bolaca writes articles for international steel publications.

He has held management posts at various mining operations in Canada, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Guinea employed by Noranda Minerals, Falconbridge and Ashanti Goldfields. Before joining Highland Gold Mining Brent was the managing director of the Geita gold mine in Tanzania (Anglogold Ashanti).

Mansour Yazdizadeh was born in Tehran on 10 July 1967.  He is graduated in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science & Technology. Valery Rudakov

Valery Rudakov was born in Tbilisi (The USSR) in 1942. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Mines and acquired the profession of mining engineer. Rudakov started his career as an engineer in the trust Yakutalmaz (in Yakutia, in the north of Russia) and worked there during 18 years, including the last 6 years in the capacity of General Director. In 1983 Rudakov became the Vice-Minister of Nonferrous Metals Industry of the USSR and at the same time – the Chief of production association Soyuzzoloto. In 1988 he headed the Central Administrative Board of Precious Metals and Diamonds attached to Council of Ministers of the USSR (Glavalmazzoloto of the USSR).
In 1991-1999 Rudakov was at the head of Russian Corporation Almazzoloto, then became the President of stock company Almazy Rossii-Sakha, and later took the post of President of Financial and Industrial Group Evrozoloto.

In December of 1999 Rudakov was appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation and at the same time – the Chief of Gokhran of Russia (the state depository of precious metals and gems). In June of 2002 he retired on a pension and was elected the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gold Mining Company Polus.
In the eighties Rudakov was awarded the highest State decorations. In 1982 he became the State Prize laureate for the development of new technology in the sphere of kimberlite pipes mining.
Valery Rudakov has an academic statuses of Full Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Science, the Academy of Mining Science, Engineer Academy of Russia. He takes the post of the Chairman of Committee for Support of Precious Metal and Stones Production, Processing and Trade of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Nikolay V. Matyash graduated from the Department of Journalism at Moscow State University named after M.V. Hadi Hami

UAE residence and Persian by nationality with more than 10 years of experiences in the Middle East and African steel industry, strong background in international sourcing, marketing, sales, trading and a senior manager for the steel industry in Middle East.

He started steel business as an Iranian steel trader and visited some of the steel mills in the Middle East, Turkey and CIS to understand the production and distribution cycle of them.

Then he worked with a management position for a top European steel trading company in Dubai for four years and also joined Middle East Steel team in 2003 and worked for about four years as the senior marketing manager of the company in MENA region.

After that, Hadi joined Attieh Steel, the company known as one of the biggest steel stockists in the region and worked for two years as the branch manager of the company in Dubai and Iran in order to be more physically active in the domestic regional steel markets.

Thereafter he joined Alam Steel Group as the global head of steel trade until then he joined NORECOM group of Germany and working currently as the General Manager of the entire group in MENA region.

Graduated from an American university and holds a BS degree in addition to two certificates in Engineering, IT and Business Administration.

Hadi is well connected person with the steel industry in MENA, Turkey, CIS and China and now a regular face on speakers’ panels at top international steel events in UK, EU, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, China, Australia, Turkey, Dubai and Qatar. He is also often called upon by the wider media to comment on trends within the Middle East steel and Africa steel industry.
