The Sakhalin-1 Project is one of the largest single international direct investments in Russia and an excellent example of advanced technological solutions and project management skills being utilized to meet a growing worldwide energy demand. Exxon Neftegas Limited (ENL), an affiliate of Exxon Mobil Corporation, is operator of the project for the multinational Sakhalin-1 Consortium (ExxonMobil interest 30%). Sakhalin-1 includes three oil and gas fields--Chayvo, Odoptu and Arkutun Dagi--located off the northeast coast of Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East. Potential recoverable resources are 307 million tons of oil and 485 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
In August 2011 Rosneft and ExxonMobil signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement to jointly explore for and produce oil in Russia, United States and other parts of the world. The agreement builds on more than 15 years of cooperation between Rosneft and ExxonMobil on the highly successful Sakhalin-1 Project.
In April 2012 Rosneft and ExxonMobil signed agreements to implement a series of multibillion dollar exploration and technology research projects established under the Strategic Cooperation Agreement. Projects involve the joint exploration and development of oil and natural gas fields in Russia, the United States and Canada; and sharing of technology and expertise.
